New Thing 1989 ATCO Records

The debut of Enuff Z'Nuff on MTV has the guys in a "Poison"-like glam atmosphere, which probably turned some people away, but it also was effective in capturing people's attention. This is an incredibly colorful and fun video, and it really looks like everyone in the band had a blast making it. Featuring tons of different camera viewpoints, a great set, a great song, it really is set apart from most of what came out of 1989 music scene. I really like the effects on Donnie's sunglasses too. Unfortunately, it is this video and the follow-up "Fly High Michelle" that the band is having a lot of trouble living down. Their music for the most part never fit their image, so they're being associated with something they (thankfully) never were.

Fly High Michelle 1990 ATCO Records

Love it or dread it, this is Enuff Z'Nuff's most colorful and creative video made. Not seeing it until years later, I could do little but watch it with my jaw dropped open in total shock that the band's image was THIS (I didn't even know they were glam). But you know what? This is one of my favorite videos. It doesn't really stand the test of time wardrobe wise (Derek's white pants, Donnie's purple headband, etc.) but it is just oozing with color and imagery. Donnie shows a bit of Beatles influence with the Sgt. Pepper type purple overcoat he wears, which is really cool, and again the effects on the shades is done well. Oh yeah, the girl in the video is pretty hot too (and no I don't mean Vikki).

Mother's Eyes 1991 ATCO Records

Mother's Eyes is a less than outstanding video. It consists of two main aspects, the band playing on a set and a side story about two rival gangs making peace with another. The band scenes are pretty cool and effective, however the gang story doesn't interest me at all. Some of the imagery is cool, like the cuts from color to black and white, but for the most part I find the special effects bothersome or cheesy, like the constant sparks. I love the song, but the video is a little preachy.

Baby Loves You 1991 ATCO Records

Now this is a great video. In fact I liked the song more after seeing it. It features the band playing on a big black and green peace sign (like the first album cover) with an enthusiastic crowd rocking around them. Donnie's looking rather "patriotic" in this one, and his peace sign shades in the intro are pretty hip too. It is a fun, colorful, and high energy video that I'm surprised didn't achieve any popularity.

Right By Your Side 1993 Arista Records

A beautiful song performed in an equally beautiful Chicago area ampitheatre. This is the first video Enuff Z'nuff really liked, and it totally captures the band. "Right By Your Side" also marks the entrance of Ricky Parent, who doesn't actually play in the song (Vik Foxx did) but does a nice job of pretending. How this song and video didn't become smash hits is a mystery to me. I guess the video just didn't have the bells -n- whistles (explosions and scantily clad women) to hold the non EZN fan's interest. Those who have been following the band will love it though.

You Got A Hold Of Me 1994 Big Deal Records

This video hurts one of my favorite songs off of the 1985 album. If they would have stuck to Chip and Donnie sitting in chairs playing and Donnie singing into a studio mike, the video would have been good. Instead, they also include confusing scenes of a couple making out, and they look like lesbians. It must be part of a Howard Stern influence because I'm pretty dang sure that "You Got A Hold Of Me" is NOT about lesbians.

Bullet From A Gun 1995 Mayhem Records

This video was obviously made on a tight budget, but it isn't bad. It's a grunge sounding song, and it has a fitting grunge looking atmosphere. It features mainly footage of Chip and Donnie dueting on a mike in black and white and color, and it's pretty cool. It also marks the first and only appearance of Geno Martino, who's in it for maybe four seconds or so. They don't have very many shots of Ricky Parent, I wonder why. It's really cool that Donnie is wearing a Strength T-Shirt, and Howard Stern footage also briefly appears.

Life Is Strange 1/2 1996 Mayhem Records

It's a cool song but the video sucks. It's rather embarrasing really. There are some cool aspects, like the band segments and the camera blurring, but nothing else works at all. The worst is the rotating word "strange", which they leave up for over five seconds. Other than the hand cooled in ice in the cardboard box, I can't think of any imagery that I liked. Sorry. On the plus side it does feature Monaco, even though you never really see his face.

Wheels 1997 Mayhem Records

Yet another underground video. Bryan Keith of XS NRG Productions did a fabulous job with what he had to make a psychadelic looking and interesting to watch video. It features mainly Donnie singing into the camera at a local tavern, and he's looking rather laid back. The computer effects aren't too cheesy, actually most of them are pretty effective. The manipulation of the band illustration and all of the various peace sign imagery are especially good. The main problem with this is that, again, it's shot with a tight budget, so it doesn't represent the band the way it should. Not that it's the band's fault or anything, I just don't think the vid will impress anyone due to this fact. It is very good by underground video standards, and if they have to continue making them, I hope they use Bryan Keith again because he is quite good. Next time include more footage of Ricky and Monaco though, they barely exist in this one!
